Marketing 101: What all goes into a social media strategy?

A social media strategy is a multi-dimensional & in-depth plan of action. But do you know all the activities involved in perfectly executing one? Learn more

The overarching goal of a strategy is to drive traffic and convert this traffic into customers. However, beyond this, there is much more that goes into it than meets the eye. Let’s delve a little deeper and take a look at some of the activities involved in social media marketing.

  1. Keyword research
  2. Competitor analysis
  3. Content marketing
  4. Ad campaigning
  5. Setting objectives
  6. Analysing insights

There is a lot that goes into social media marketing but to grant you a glimpse into this world we’ve summed it up into 6 points.

Keyword research

The first step and probably one of the most fundamental is keyword research. Through the use of tools, you need to analyse keywords, or phrases that people are using to look for your product. These keywords help your website and blog to get better Google rankings, which helps organic search.

Once you have found your keywords, you need to analyse which ones have high search volume and low competition in order to receive the most bang for buck with your chosen words.

Competitor analysis

You need to do a little spying on your competitors. In order to better benchmark yourself and understand what others are doing, you need to conduct an in-depth competitor analysis.

If they are doing well, you need to know how. They probably have a great strategy that has taken time to develop. However, there are certain things that you can pick up on that serve as tricks of the trade and apply it to your own strategy.

Content marketing

A crucial part of social media marketing is content. Ever heard the saying content is king? It’s true and for a good reason.

Based on your research findings, you need to create content that will be published in order to meet your objectives. Content marketing extends from publishing blogs to creating content for social media platforms and videos.

Ad campaigning

You know when you’re scrolling through social media and see an ad pop up about something that you were talking about yesterday? It’s no coincidence. It’s a result of research, monitoring, and insights.

Many brands use advertising as a means of sending messages out and reaching their audiences faster. The process of creating an ad is in-depth and takes a lot of patience, time, effort and creativity.

Setting objectives

We’ve covered this one before, but it always deserves its time in the spotlight as its importance cannot go unrecognised. You need to spend a great deal of time on setting objectives. Figure out what you want to achieve and how you’re going to get there.

It’s all very good and well knowing that you want to achieve global domination, but do you know how you’re going to get there? Knowing how you’re going to achieve your goals is the first step in achieving them

Analysing insights

This is an on-going aspect that you will learn to love. At first, it may seem overwhelming, but with time and patience, you will come to appreciate analysing your insights. There are many great tools out there that you can use to see if what you are doing is working.

If you find that what you are doing is not working, don’t let it discourage you. Find out exactly where you are going wrong and use it to your advantage. At first, it’s going to take a little experimentation. Especially if you are to new to the exciting digital world.

Social media marketing is indeed a world of its own. It’s complicated, multi-faceted and above all else – simply amazing. However, you need to remember that to learn to appreciate it, you need to spend time with, nurture it, do your market research and let it grow.

There’s a lot that goes into it but if you go about it the right way, you will see the results you set out to achieve.
